Mathew Wescott graduated from Blessed Hope Baptist College in Benton, Arkansas with a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education in 2013. He then received a Certificate in Emergency Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and passed the National Registry exam to become and Emergency Medical Technician in January of 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the next few years, he noticed a large disconnect between how churches and medical institutions viewed mental health. He observed a number of positive and negative applications from both perspectives and realized that many times they were using the same terminology but meaning two different things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Working on an ambulance in the Atlanta area during the aftermath of the pandemic, he saw firsthand how the massive increase of suicidal tendencies was impacting the youth of the area. God used this time to increase his burden for those with mental health challenges. He also observed how ill equipped many churches were to minister to these people with an appropriate understanding for where they were at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2023 God began to move him to write a book attempting to help Christians better understand mental health and to bridge the gaps between the physiological, psychical, and spiritual approaches to the issue. That began a year of preparation a research, followed by two years of writing, more research, and refinement. The book attempts to highlight the benefits and necessity of each approach while differentiating when each perspective might be most beneficial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The author believes that all three approaches\/perspectives have value and appropriate applications, and his straightforward style will directly confront those who believe that their own approach is the only correct one. But he has a heart of compassion, a desire to glorify God, and deep love for people. For anyone looking for a resource to help them expand their knowledge and broaden their view to be able to help more people, he has tried to produce one that will give them a solid foundation from which to begin building a ministry to the mentally infirmed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
